How to include mental health in your induction and onboarding

How to include mental health in your induction and onboarding process.

I recently ran a poll on LinkedIn in which I asked why more businesses don’t include mental health during their induction and onboarding process. The results were quite surprising, see the screenshot below:

Now, the first shocking result is that 27% of business don’t see the benefit of including mental health in their onboarding. However, that will be covered in another article. For now, let’s concentrate on the 55% that said they don’t know how to include it.

55% don’t know how to include mental health in their onboarding

It’s understandable, it really is. Mental health is a subject that many shy away from even in this day and age. A business doesn’t want to offer the wrong thoughts and knowledge. They need someone who is trained to provide the correct knowledge during onboarding. Of course, that costs money. Small and medium sized businesses can’t afford to have an external trainer come in whenever a new hire starts.

There are time restraints to consider as well

Not only does it cost money to have a trainer come in, it also depends on when they can come in. If they can’t make it in on the day the induction and onboarding is happening, time is lost when the new hire has to fit in with when they can. This defeats the whole object of the induction process.

So, how do you include mental health in your onboarding process?

To get the right information, you need a mental health professional. To get that knowledge at the right time and at an affordable price you need it on-demand. An online, pre-recorded workshop produced by a business that specialises in mental health in the workplace gives you everything you need. The workshop can be watched from anywhere with an internet connection and can be paused and re-started to fit around work schedules. Plus, because a trainer doesn’t need to attend the site it saves on expenditure. Perfect!
